Tour de France Femmes Rotterdam
This year, the Tour de France Femmes Avec Zwift had its “Grand Départ” in Rotterdam, my city of birth. It was in 2010, when I was 15 years old, that the men’s race started in Rotterdam. I bought my first serious camera back then, with no serious intention of becoming a professional photographer someday, and shot every rider passing the Erasmusbrug. Except for the favorites of that year’s Tour de France, because the battery ran out in my enthusiasm to have a shot of every single rider...
Now, 14 years later, I’m getting paid to do what I love most: playing around with a camera and capturing the most beautiful sport on earth. It’s such a blessing to have the opportunity to do this. I joined the Tour de France Femmes as a spectator, looking for unique ways to capture the race that took place in the heart of, in my humble opinion, the best city in the Netherlands.
I hope the Tour de France will visit Rotterdam again. Will we have to wait another 14 years, or could it be sooner? I'm curious if and how this event will have a long-term impact on local society.
